During the week of March 14 – 18, 2022, Insurance Management Program students experienced a dynamic week of industry hands-on learning as Wawanesa conducted Wawanesa Week. Wawanesa Week can be described as a symposium of technical learning where students get a chance to interact and learn from a variety of industry thought leaders and technical experts at Wawanesa. Wawanesa Insurance is one of the largest insurance companies in Canada, with assets of over $9.5 billion, and employing a workforce of over 3,500 people. The company is also one of the oldest companies in Canada, as it was founded in 1896 in Wawanesa, Manitoba.
During Wawanesa Week, students heard from an industry leadership panel that included Josie Porto, Vice President, Ontario region, Vlad Koltchine, Director of Personal Lines Underwriting, and Elizabeth Leyland Johnston, Director of Claim, Easter Region on Monday. On Tuesday, students heard from Javier Ibanez, Director of Business Development - Canada East. On Wednesday students had a chance to listen to both the dynamic claims panel and the underwriting panel. To end the week off, Wawanesa conducted an employer showcase event. This event was a massive success!
Over the years Wawanesa has demonstrated tremendous leadership as a company committed to both education and Humber College. Wawanesa has supported the Humber College, Insurance Management Program by way of scholarships, emergency bursaries, donations, student mentorships, leadership via the Program Advisory Committee, and providing several graduates with work placement and full-time job opportunities.
On behalf of the Longo Faculty of Business at Humber College, I would like to thank Wawanesa Insurance for its commitment to our students and to the Insurance Management Program!
A massive thank you goes to Vlad Koltchine from Wawanesa for organizing the event!
