On March 5th, the Insurance Management program hosted an event in the Humber Room, Celebrating Women in Insurance for International Women’s Day.
The event was a big success and witnessed over 90 people in attendance including industry professionals, program alumni, and both current and new program students. The event featured a guest lecture from Vinita Jajware, President of the Toronto’s Insurance Women’s Association (TWIA) on how women, as a demographic, have emerged as leaders within the industry.
To compliment Vinita’s lecture, attendees witnessed an executive leadership panel of female leaders that included:
The leadership panel was moderated by Beverly Lewis-Hunte, Career Connections Program Officer at the Insurance Institute of Canada. Leaders provided students with their thought leadership with tips for success, career management and overcoming adversity.
The evening ended with a reflection led by Insurance Management student Varsha Shetty, who shared her experiences as a young woman entering as well as an international student entering the industry.
Thank you, everyone, who made this event a success including Master of Ceremonies, Professor Annette Palalas, the Insurance Management student volunteers and our event sponsors (Canadian Underwriter, IBAO, The Co-operators, Wawanesa and the Insurance Institute of Canada) for your generous donations.
