Each Winter term, the Canadian Institute of Financial Planners (CIFP) hosts an annual case challenge, extending invitations to colleges across Canada to assemble student teams, with a maximum of three students per team and two teams per college.
Participants are allotted two and a half hours to formulate their analysis and recommendations on a given financial planning case, presented via a PowerPoint presentation. Following preparation, teams have twenty minutes to present their findings to a panel of three judges from CIFP, with an additional ten minutes allocated for panel questions.
Traditionally an in-person event, the competition transitioned to a virtual format amidst the pandemic, with commendable results from our teams, securing first and third place in previous years. This year, Humber's Financial Planning students advanced in the regional competitions to qualify for the nationals.
