The Sustainable Fashion Committee led by Bachelor of Commerce – Fashion Management Program Coordinator Francesca D’Angelo and her team of students helped bring Humber Earth Month to a close with two outstanding Sustainability Talks in conjunction with the Office of Sustainability.
On March 29th, Thrift Talk: The Rise of Thrift in its Various Formats welcomed guest speakers Brad Spencer and Emily Kempainen from the US-based Winmark Corporation, along with one of their franchises Plato’s Closet, and alumni Angela Bellini, from the luxury vintage retailer Retyche based in Montreal to discuss the benefits of sustainable shopping.
On the evening of March 30th, the talks continued with Eco Talk: A Panel Discussion on Sustainable Fashion Practices and focused on textile waste, donations and eco-labels. The webinar featured H&M’s Sustainability Manager Jessica Stasskewitsch, Aleksandra Vasic and Fatuma Mulungi from New Circles and Glow, the City of Toronto’s Waste Management Services Project Lead Katrusia Balan, and Humber’s Environmental Coordinator Safa Al-Haji from BEST Services Pros.
The webinars are available on the Office of Sustainability website.
