Fashion Management Guest Speaker Shares Industry and Career Experience as a Buyer

By Mariana Amesa

Hudson Bay Buyer and Fashion Management graduate certificate alumna Alexandra Peroni guest lectured to Fashion Management students during their Retail Buying class.

As a Category Buyer at Hudson’s Bay, Alexandra’s insights and career experience were very valuable to the entire class. Her presentation not only helped students further understand retail buying concepts such as 'Allocation Plans' and 'Open-to-Buy' but also helped everyone visualize the skill set needed to be a successful buyer. Students learned that one of the most important skills to have as a buyer is in people management. Since buyers work with people of various backgrounds and personalities, they need to be prepared, have an open mind, and listen to different ideas and perspectives.

Students were very eager to learn more and asked many questions regarding Alexandra’s current position, career path, and suggestions on how to develop the required skills to land a job as a buyer - one of the most attractive career paths for fashion students. Alexandra’s advice and insights added significant value to Fashion Management students’ journey and helped them have a clear understanding of what a career as a buyer involves.

The students were extremely grateful for having had the chance to participate in this learning experience and listen to Alexandra’s success story.

A special thanks to Fashion Management Program Coordinator Rossie Kadiyska for inviting such a valuable guest.
