Fashion Management Student Receives Social Innovation Award

Fashion Management graduate certificate student Arushi Gulati, recently received Humber’s Social Innovation Award for her sustainable business venture, Shades of Red.

Shades of Red is an online rental service that features affordable options for high-end designer bridal clothing. Arushi says the idea for Shades of Red was born out of her experience with Indian-Canadian brides and grooms looking for more affordable wedding attire without sacrificing their desire for luxury.

The Social Innovation Award is an initiative created by Humber’s Office of Sustainability and Applied Research & Innovation. As a rental service, Shades of Red capitalizes on sustainable fashion and encourages participation in the circular economy within a niche community. Arushi's project recieved the award due to its innovation and impact on the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Shades of Red is an e-commerce platform for high-end bridal wear that helps consumers take steps towards leaving a smaller footprint and smarter closet. On the website, customers also have access to a list of experienced stylists, makeup artists, and wedding planners to help make the overall experience less stressful.
