Unfiltered, Humber Polytechnic’s 2025 Fashion Show, was more than a student project—it was a bold expression of identity, collaboration, and innovation. Organized and executed by students in the Fashion Arts and Business program as part of FASH 251: Experiential Learning - Event Production Fashion Arts and Business course, the production transformed a traditional runway into a platform for storytelling, cultural expression, and sustainable design.
From the moment the first look appeared, the energy in the room made it clear that something meaningful was unfolding. Each model, garment, and soundtrack reflected not only the theme of the show but the thoughtful intention behind it. With dramatic silhouettes and rebellious style choices, the students conveyed what Unfiltered meant to them - a challenge to norms, a space for authenticity, and a reflection of the power of personal expression in fashion. What made this production remarkable was the sense of ownership and leadership evident throughout the process. Every detail—casting, choreography, styling, staging, marketing—was student-led. The result was a polished, high-impact experience that mirrored the professional fashion world, while remaining rooted in learning and collaboration. One student, who served as Project Manager, shared, “It was so amazing to see everyone excel in their role and watch the execution of the show flourish successfully. The team has worked tremendously to showcase what Unfiltered means to us and how it defines fashion.”
A defining element of Unfiltered was its commitment to sustainability. All garments and décor were sourced secondhand from the Salvation Army, challenging students to work within ethical and environmental boundaries. The outcome was a stunning showcase that demonstrated pre-loved materials could be reimagined into runway-worthy designs. The production made a compelling statement: that sustainability and style are not at odds, but essential partners in the future of fashion.
This undertaking was supported by the mentorship of Associate Dean Bruce Sinclair and Professor Vladimira Steffek, whose guidance enabled students to bring their creative visions to life with professionalism and purpose. As Project Manager Natalina Jbeily shared, “We would not have been able to put on such a groundbreaking show without them. Their contributions helped us reach our full potential.”
Equally essential to the show’s striking visual impact was the collaboration with students from the Cosmetic Management program, who provided professional-grade makeup artistry for the runway models. Their skill and vision brought each stylist's concept to life, whether it was avant-garde theatrical styling or clean, minimalist beauty. The makeup artists worked behind the scenes with precision and creativity, helping to transform backstage into a fully functional studio environment and supporting the overall polish and cohesion of the show. Their contributions were an outstanding display of technical excellence and cross-program collaboration.,
Unfiltered was a striking demonstration of the Humber Learning Outcomes in action—from communication and collaboration to critical thinking, innovation, and civic engagement. But more than that, it was a celebration of what Humber students can achieve when given space to lead, freedom to explore, and a real-world platform to show what they believe in. The level of professionalism, creativity, and originality on display spoke volumes, not only about the students' potential but about the future of fashion education at Humber.
