The fashion experts at Humber have spoken. From ensuring you don’t gravitate to a 2019 look and understand the new 2020 trends, to finding the perfect holiday outfit, the Fashion Arts and Business students have you covered. Keep reading for insights from Fashion student, Fatima Ubaid. Four 2019 trends you may have loved:

Cut Outs

1. Cut Outs

Cut outs offer an interesting dimension and modern edge to what may be a classic or traditional silhouette. Perfect for when you feel edgy and want to make a subtle statement.

Yeezy

2. Yeezy

Yezzy trend from 2019The success of the 2018 release of #YeezySeason6 lingered. The now iconic collaboration between Kanye West and Adidas, features a signature neutral monochromatic tones of comfortable and simplistic fabrics and textures.

Tartan

3. Tartan

The Scottish-originating pattern was all over street fashion and runways this past Fall and Winter. It is likely that this classic pattern won’t be going anywhere as it is easily transitions and likely pairs with many of our staple wardrobe pieces.

Dad look

4. Dad Look

You may have realized that those old photos where you made fun of your dad’s fashion choices, were very much in. Oversized shirts, jackets, and wider-cut straight leg pants are the quintessential late 80’s and early 90’s dad look. The once ‘dated’ trend appears to never quite go completely out of style as oversized silhouettes continue to make consistent comebacks. If done correctly, the seemingly ‘frumpy’ look can actually be done both professionally and casually.

Here are some tips on how to dress for the holiday season and into 2020.

Holiday Look

Tired of sporting your Christmas sweaters every year? Look no further because this is a no-fuss fashion-forward alternative. Blending textures with layered fabrics and prints with a bold lip and accessories is a great way to make a statement. Don’t be afraid to play with different lengths! Try throwing a jacket or blazer over a sweater dress and leggings.

Holiday Look

New Years Eve

Without fail, New Year’s Eve can arguably be one of the coldest days of the year. Try a layering look to ring in 2020 and experience no fashion stress. Layering turtlenecks under slip dresses has been a trend this year and we approve! Accessorize with bold jewelry and ankle boots to finish it off.
