Alumni Spotlight: From Barbados to a Bright Future in Canada’s Event Industry
When Akil Walton came to Humber from Barbados, he was ready to dive into the world of events — and he’s been making incredible strides ever since! For his Event Management graduate certificate program, Akil completed a field placement with Provisions, a leading catering company known for its creative flair and exceptional service. Akil was hired on after the placement because of his dedication and work ethic. While working part-time at Provisions, Akil didn’t slow down — he went on to complete a Project Management graduate certificate, further expanding his skills and industry knowledge.
All that hard work has paid off. Akil joined Oliver & Bonacini (O&B) as Event Sales Specialist at SixtyEight, a new venue space recently opened by the company. O&B is one of Canada’s top hospitality and venue management companies, and Akil is continuing to grow and shine in the industry.
As an international student navigating a new country and career, Akil is truly defying the odds, showing what’s possible with determination, passion, and a love for creating unforgettable event experiences. We couldn’t be prouder to see him representing Humber and inspiring future event professionals.
