Spa Management Grad Excels in Nail Art

Art comes in all forms and can be displayed in all types of venues. Painters display their works in galleries, street artists use the urban landscape as their canvas. The list goes on. For Kassandra Jones, a 2017 Esthetician: Spa Management graduate, her works of art are proudly displayed on the nails of her clients.

After graduating from Humber last spring, Kassandra began work at Holden Grace, a hair salon and nail studio across from High Park. There, she provides her clients with regular and gel polish manicures and pedicures specializing in nail art.

Last April, Kassandra swept through the student level of the Canada Nail Cup - a national beauty and spa competition held annually at the Esthetique Spa International Tradeshow - and handily won or placed in the top three of several competitions.

She placed first in Akzentz Gel Play where she had to create floral-themed nail art on one client’s hand in 45 minutes.

Additionally, she placed first in the Fun Sculpture category, where she completed a full set of acrylic/gel nails (one hand in French style and the other free style) in two-and-a-half hours, and placed first in the Blinged! category, where she applied 50-60 Swarovski Crystals to her client’s nails.

In addition to her first-place wins, Kassandra placed in second in the Mixed Media competition and third in the 20-minute Shellac challenge.

Kassandra credits her current and past success to the mentorship and instruction she received at Humber. The Humber Spa was especially instrumental in preparing her for the real-world realities of working in a spa, and Antonietta Perretta, Program Coordinator for the Esthetician/Spa Management program, gave her excellent career guidance.

“The faculty of the Spa program is nothing short of amazing,” said Kassandra. ”I am so thankful for my time at Humber.”

Congratulations Kassandra on all your success!
