HLOs:
The Esthetician/Spa Management program proudly returned to the Skills Ontario Competition in 2025, marking its first participation since 2019. With the support of Esthetician/Spa Management and Cosmetic Management program faculty, Spa Lab Technologists, and the broader Humber Polytechnic community, students were given the opportunity to demonstrate technical excellence and professionalism in a high-profile, competitive setting.
Held on May 5th at the Toronto Congress Centre, the Skills Ontario Aesthetics Competition welcomed students from across the province to compete in four skill categories: Seasonal Flair Gel Manicure with Body Art, Advanced Facial, Body Wrap Treatment, and Creative Fantasy Make-up Application. Humber’s representatives, Haruka Kawakami and Amber Tran, trained weekly from early February in preparation for the event.
Their efforts paid off: Haruka earned a gold medal, while Amber placed fourth in a field of 15 competitors representing eight Ontario colleges. These outstanding results reflect the students’ technical expertise, professionalism, and commitment to excellence.
Following her provincial win, Haruka was selected to represent Team Ontario at the 2025 Skills Canada National Competition in Regina, Saskatchewan, held from May 28th to 31st. As Humber’s sole competitor in the Aesthetics category and one of just four students from the college on the provincial team, Haruka competed against national peers in two days of intensive, skills-based challenges.
We are pleased to share that Haruka earned the bronze medal at the national level, an impressive achievement that brings pride and recognition to the Esthetician/Spa Management program and Humber Polytechnic as a whole.
This success highlights the program’s ongoing commitment to excellence in applied learning and student development. Congratulations to Haruka, Amber, and the entire support team for representing Humber with such distinction on the provincial and national stages.
