ServiceMaster Restore Plays Key Role in Launching Disaster Recovery Manager Program

With the increasing frequency of severe weather events and a growing talent gap in the property restoration industry, Humber launched the Disaster Recovery Manager program in the spring of 2024. This initiative aims to attract and cultivate new talent while preparing them for project management roles in disaster restoration.

Students in the program earn certifications including Fire and Smoke Damage Restoration Technician (FSRT), Water Damage Restoration Technician (WRT), and Xactimate Level 1. The program has also partnered with technology firms Encircle and Verisk to ensure students gain proficiency in the critical tools of the trade.

A key partner in the development of this innovative program is ServiceMaster Restore, which has provided invaluable technical expertise, training resources, and industry insights. ServiceMaster Restore’s contributions were instrumental in creating the curriculum for courses such as Introduction to Restoration and Project Manager and Operations. They supplied a wealth of materials, including industry journals, statistics, case studies, PowerPoint presentations, and best practices. “ServiceMaster partnered with us immediately and were fantastic to work with. We couldn’t have done this without their help,” said John McNeil, Associate Dean at Humber Polytechnic, when speaking of their involvement.

In addition to curriculum development, ServiceMaster Restore has established two scholarships to support students in the program. The ServiceMaster Restore of Canada Scholarship offers an annual Academic Excellence Award of $1,000 to the top student, as well as a tuition scholarship covering 50% of fees, amounting to $1,750 per cohort each year. Over three years, this commitment totals $15,750. The scholarship focuses on environmental stewardship, aiming to reward students dedicated to integrating sustainability into their disaster recovery careers. Award recipients will also be invited to ServiceMaster Restore's annual AGM meeting.

Special thanks are extended to Daniel Loosemore, Chief of Sales and Operations; Maureen Catania, Director of National Sales; Joshua Jordano, Network Quality and Performance Manager; and the entire ServiceMaster Restore team for their significant contributions to the program and their ongoing support of the Disaster Recovery Manager students.
