I had the pleasure of presenting at the Cengage Computing Experience (CCE) in Kansas City, Missouri, held Oct 29-30; a national gathering of educators and innovators exploring how artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are shaping the future of education and business and computing.
I presented my pedagogical approach to teaching Database Systems in the Digital Business Management BComm program, which incorporates a custom GPT as a cognitive partner to enhance student engagement and support conceptual development. For the hands-on project, students design and implement a relational database inspired by physical cookbooks from the Humber library, guided by carefully crafted weekly in-class activities. Students may earn digital badges by demonstrating proficiency in Microsoft Access and prepare for job interviews in data-related roles through Bongo, an AI-enabled video assessment platform (view slides).
The conference offered great opportunities to engage in forward-thinking discussions on AI in education and the evolving nature of assessments in the AI era, emphasizing how educators can use AI to deepen learning and critical thinking rather than replace it.
Two days packed with energy, ideas, new meaningful connections, and great conversations with fellow educators, a true reminder of the importance of community and continuous learning as we prepare our students for a rapidly evolving digital future!
