On October 18th, 2023, I attended a WordPress Meetup at Humber, unaware that it would lead me to a summer co-op role. During the event, Regina Azevedo from Publicis Groupe delivered an inspiring presentation on data analytics, covering topics like digital and social analytics and search engine optimization (SEO).

Regina’s enthusiasm for data-driven insights inspired me to connect with her afterward. Although there were no immediate openings, Regina invited me to stay connected on LinkedIn for future opportunities. Several months later, I reached out again, learning about a newly available co-op position. I applied, interviewed, and was thrilled to secure the role of Junior Data Analyst for the summer of 2024.

My tasks included developing social media and web reports, conducting client survey research, creating dashboards and visualizations in Excel and Looker, and performing in-depth keyword research. Throughout the four months, I valued the supportive team, workplace culture, and practical learning experiences that solidified my career aspirations in data analytics.

The DBSA’s WordPress sessions were instrumental in helping me make valuable connections that ultimately led to my co-op at Publicis. This experience with their ROOT team expanded my understanding of the data analytics field beyond anything I had imagined. I truly believe this opportunity would not have been possible if I hadn’t attended that WordPress meetup in October.

I encourage other students to engage in campus events and networking opportunities, as you never know where these connections may lead you.
