Fashion students enrolled in the 20th Century Fashion History course collaborated with their peers from the Web Development class for a distinctive endeavour. Together, they embarked on their final group project - creating a digital archive for a fashion museum, featuring personal fashion artifacts contributed by the students themselves. Under the guidance of Fashion Management Professor Francesca D’Angelo and Digital Business Management Professor Hanadi Alnawab, the students unveiled their work to the Humber community through six museum exhibits at Lakeshore campus.

The culmination of their efforts led to an exciting opportunity for Professors Francesca and Hanadi to showcase the Fashion History Project at the 2024 Commonwealth Fashion Council Symposium.

Professor Francesca D’Angelo provided a comprehensive overview of the project, emphasizing its three key principles:

  1. Agitation – challenging the conventional representation of fashion by focusing on a broader demographic.
  2. Innovation – employing innovative pedagogical methods, including experiential learning and a departure from AI-generated research.
  3. Intersectionality – capturing the diverse perspectives within the classroom, spanning domestic, international, and exchange students.

Professor Hanadi Alnawab elaborated on the role of Digital Business Management students in the project, highlighting their contributions:

  1. Developing the history museum's information website.
  2. Designing the information architecture of the website.
  3. Optimizing the website's content for search engines.

In preparation for the symposium, Professors Francesca and Hanadi also participated in an interview on The Arif Zaman Business Show on Bloomsbury Radio, alongside other guests. During the interview, they discussed fashion and fashion education trends across Canada, South Africa, and the Commonwealth. The interview served as a precursor to the second Commonwealth Fashion Education Symposium.
