Students from Humber Polytechnic’s degree programs were able to see Business Process Reengineering (BPR) results in practice during a visit to Entripy, a leader in custom-branded apparel. Through an engaging site tour, students were shown how Entripy’s future was secured through their usage of BPR, and their continuous commitment to Business Process Improvements (BPI), from pre-production all the way to finely finished products. These steps mean that Entripy’s model can be streamlined or expanded, while also being dynamic enough to pivot for customers to ensure a faster turnaround.

Nowhere is this more evident than on the operations floor, a bustling and innovative work space. As it stands, Entripy stores no overstock, as this allows them to adhere to a Just In Time (JIT) model and not have a warehouse cluttered with excess. This model adjusts workflow and staff on an “as needed” basis, which in turn allows for adjustments, increases or decreases, without affecting the end product. When asked about Entripy’s success in this model, President & CEO Jas Brar affirmed that it is essential to “create good processes first, then add technology.” This is echoed throughout Entripy, from their customer-focused website to their revitalization of their core processes. Entripy also uses a Time to Market (TTM) model, which adheres to using Canadian distributors first, in a show of solidarity and ensuring on-time deliveries.

Entripy also has a revolutionary hiring practice; team members are encouraged to take more of an active role, learning new, transferable skills, although operations would still make up the majority of the workforce. Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) in each area are vital to the growth of the business, because these individuals are authorities in their areas, having learned wisdom through continuous processes. Their expertise permits for more streamlined, efficient practices, part of Entripy’s ongoing commitment to BPIs. In collaboration with this ideal, their intra-office connectivity allows for all members to be engaged in their process, from accessing remote equipment, all the way to sharing with different departments, without the need to physically track down individual members.

Because of this visit, students were able to see these theoretical concepts in practice, giving relevant experience and highlighting the real importance of critical thinking, planning business processes, and customer-driven focus. Their commitment to these ideals means that Entripy will continue to be the leader in their field, while showcasing a shining example that all of Humber’s business students can follow.
