Industry Engagement Spotlight: Fireside Chat with CEO of Avolta Canada

The Data Analytics program hosted a Fireside Chat with Industry featuring Vasil Bourak, CEO of Avolta Canada. Hosted with support from the Employability Team within Student Success and Engagement, through the coordination of Akanni Frederick, the session offered students an opportunity to engage directly with an industry leader in an intimate and conversational setting. The discussion focused on the evolving expectations in tech hiring, the realities of entrepreneurship, and the importance of communication psychology and soft skills in driving innovation within data‑driven fields.

Students were highly engaged throughout the event, valuing the chance to ask candid questions and connect classroom learning with real‑world industry perspectives. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing interests in longer sessions and future discussions tailored specifically to Data Analytics applications. The Fireside Chat represents an important step in expanding meaningful industry engagement opportunities for our learners.

New experiential learning opportunities are already being planned, with additional industry‑focused events and engagement activities scheduled for later this term. These ongoing initiatives continue to strengthen our commitment to providing students with practical, applied connections to industry as part of their academic experience.
