On April 25, 2023, 28 talented students demonstrated their skills by competing for the title of Iron Chef in the annual Kraft Heinz Iron Chef competition at Humber College. This year's competitors represented the breadth of Humber's program offerings including Baking and Pastry Arts Management, Culinary Management and Culinary Skills. Each team prepared a 3-course menu that had the food theme of "Accessible Ethnic Inspired." The students had the opportunity to showcase their learned culinary skills while highlighting various globally inspired cuisines.
The top 3 teams won cash prizes & products thanks to the generous sponsorship of Kraft Heinz.
A few mandatory ingredients had to be incorporated into their dishes and, on the day of the competition, the teams were asked to incorporate a secret ingredient.
Team ITSUMO wins the Iron Chef Culinary Competition held at Humber College April 25, 2023. The winning team comprised of chefs Cezar Z Yambao, Joshua Talamayan, Siegfried II Tana, and Joshua Aeron Agcaoili. They beat out 6 other teams with their 3 delicious dishes. Second place goes to Team Asian No 1, third place goes to Team Fuego, and Team Titans received an Honourable Mention.
The Chairman and Host of this year's Iron Chef Competition is Thomas Heitz, Corporate Chef of Kraft Heinz.
Kitchen judges include the owner of the Michelin Star restaurant Frilu and Chef John-Vincent Troiano (Humber Alumni) and Humber College's own culinary Instructors Francisco Rivera CCC (Humber Alumni) and George Taluri.
Tasting judges for 2023 are Rob Yu, Executive Chef at Yokai Izakaya(Humber Alumni, past Iron Chef competitor) Dacyion Reid, Private Meals Chef and Caterer (Humber Alumni , 2x Iron Chef winner) and Jeff Dell, Corporate Executive Chef at Foodtastic
