To begin 11 teams registered to join the 2022 competition and had to create and submit a menu & recipe package based on specific criteria. After a rigorous elimination process 6 teams of 4 students moved forward to compete for the title of Humber Iron Chef. The menus had to have a theme of "Comfort Food Re-invented" and had to have one plant-forward course. There were a few mandatory ingredients that had to be incorporated, but the big reveal was this years "secret ingredient" that they had to showcase in their menu, on the day of the competition.
