The Beauty Edit: Real Talks with Industry Experts Inspire Future Cosmetic Professionals

Third-semester Cosmetic Management students showcased professionalism, creativity, and industry-ready skills at The Beauty Edit, a student-run event that aims to connect students with graduates who have transformed their education into thriving careers.

As part of their Event Planning course, students brought this experience to life from concept through delivery; demonstrating teamwork, and hands-on coordination. From decor and marketing to logistics, public relations, and guest experience, every detail reflected weeks of student-led planning and collaboration.

The event highlighted the powerful impact of alumni connections, featuring two inspiring guest speakers: Sharmishta Varma, Operations Specialist at MOB Beauty, and Ivy Liao, Beauty Manager at Shoppers Drug Mart. Both graduates of the Cosmetic Management program, Sharmishta and Ivy returned to share their professional journeys, offering insights, honest reflections, and practical advice for students preparing to enter the industry. Their experiences demonstrated the exciting range of opportunities in the beauty world and the power of being resilient, ambitious, and passionate.

Throughout the event, students had the opportunity to ask questions, gain clarity on real-world expectations, and build meaningful connections with professionals who were once in their position. These authentic conversations created an empowering atmosphere; one rooted in mentorship, growth, and community.

This event would not have been possible without the leadership of Cosmetic Management Professor Vladimira Steffek, Program Coordinator Antonietta Perretta and the third semester students. A heartfelt thank you also goes to our Associate Dean Dr. Bruce Sinclair for his continued involvement, Sharmishta and Ivy for generously sharing their time and expertise, to guests who attended, and to every student in the Event Planning class who contributed to making The Beauty Edit a success.

The Beauty Edit was more than an industry talk; it was a celebration of student achievement, alumni excellence, and the collaborative spirit that defines the Cosmetic Management program at Humber Polytechnic.
