Business Marketing graduate, James Anderson, recently secured a job with Nielsen Canada as a Market Analyst where he will focus on assisting clients operating in the manufacturing and CPG space. James credits his success to the key skills he learned at Humber; in particular, the skills he honed by taking part in the Ontario Colleges Marketing Competition (OCMC) class and event.
During OCMC prep classes, James was paired with teammate Vanessa Crego - a lucky match-up as it was Vanessa who informed him about the position at Nielsen. (Networking at its best!)
James said that the interview process closely matched the skills taught in the OCMC class. He was asked to read a case study, prepare a PowerPoint presentation and then present his findings, their implications, and his recommendations to the interview panel. “The interview process felt just like class,” said James. “I felt fully prepared to respond.”
James has been helping to take the Grads Give Back event into the digital realm by turning it into a podcast where he asks former Business – Marketing grads about their journeys from fresh-faced student to busy professional. Along the way, he asks them to share their best tips on getting into the workforce. Each month a new episode will come out to match up with the Dean’s Newsletter. The first episode has already dropped and the next one is on its way!
You can find the podcast here. Stay tuned!
James is a great example of our hopes for new Marketing graduates!
