For first semester Business Management student and varsity soccer standout Evan Moreau, choosing Humber Polytechnic was an easy decision. What impressed him most was Humber’s recruitment process — their professionalism, clarity, and commitment to student-athlete success.

“I chose Humber because of the amazing recruitment team and all the added features I would get, not only as an athlete but as a student,” Evan shared.

With a passion for the business world, Evan enrolled in the Business Management Diploma program to build a strong foundation that will support his long-term goals. Learning the full scope of business — from operations to leadership — is something he believes will guide him into the career he wants.

Life as a Student-Athlete

Like many first-year athletes, Evan expected juggling academics and athletics to be stressful. But with time, structure, and support, he found his balance.

“Life as a student-athlete seemed stressful going into it, but as the semester went on, you learn to balance both jobs,” he said.

Evan credits Mallory Lawton and Aliyah Davidson from Humber Varsity for helping him stay organized, communicate effectively, and find solutions when travel caused him to miss classes.

Learning on and off the Field

Evan’s academic experience has been shaped by professors who expect students to show up, stay engaged, and commit to learning — expectations that mirror the discipline needed in varsity sport.

“These classes taught me things I always wanted to know. The dedication they expect reflects the same dedication required on the field,” said Evan.

As early as semester one, in his Marketing Fundamentals course, Evan earned a strong vote of confidence from his marketing professor, Steven Lorini, who praised both Evan’s professionalism and drive.

“Evan is a phenomenal student. Even with his demanding varsity schedule, he was often the first student in class, even at 8 a.m. Once he grasped the theory of marketing, he brought it to life using the experiential learning he gained in the classroom. His marketing presentation this semester was outstanding. The confidence and poise he carries on the pitch showed up just as strongly in the classroom. Whatever direction Evan chooses in business, he definitely has a future in marketing if he pursues it.” — Professor Steven Lorini

These academic achievements, paired with his athletic discipline, have made Evan a standout in both environments. Being part of Humber’s Varsity Soccer Team means a great deal to Evan. The competitive environment, high standards, and constant push for excellence are exactly what motivated him to choose this path.

Advice for Future Student-Athletes and Looking Ahead

At Humber, Evan aims to grow personally, continue to build confidence, and prepare for a business career he truly enjoys. The winning culture he has experienced on the field motivates him to pursue success off the field as well. Evan encourages future Humber athletes to set clear goals and work through them step by step.

“For me, attending classes, winning nationals, and getting good grades were my goals, and that’s what allowed me to thrive this year,” he said.

Evan extends sincere thanks to the Humber faculty and staff, his teammates, his loved ones, and especially his dad, who trained him throughout his life

“Without these people, I wouldn’t be where I am today. And a special thank you to Rick Fonseca.”
