Amanda Simoes, Bachelor of Commerce - Human Resources Management 2020 graduate and Business Administration Advanced Diploma 2018 graduate

My name is Amanda Simoes and I was a student at Humber College for five years. I initially went to Humber to pursue an advanced diploma in Business Administration and upon graduating in 2018, was unsure of what my next move was going to be. After spending a lot of time thinking about what was next, I decided to go back to Humber and complete a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management.

I have always been passionate about helping others and making a difference within the workplace. The professors at Humber were very engaging and ensured that their students had the necessary tools to succeed. Professors used their personal experiences within the workforce to make lessons more realistic and allowed us to get an idea of what to expect outside of the classroom. I am extremely grateful for my experience at Humber and professors like Maria Racanelli. She kept me motivated during times of self-doubt and helped me achieve my goals!

I graduated amidst the global pandemic in 2020. This caused a lot of uncertainty and stress, as there were not many jobs available. Luckily, I was able to secure a role as a Recruitment Specialist at Staff Depot in Mississauga. As a Recruitment Specialist, I help others find their dream job and clients find their dream hire! Working with Staff Depot, I have developed a strong network of candidates - specifically in Direct and Permanent hires. I have been successfully helping hiring managers find top candidates all over the GTA even during the pandemic, which has been very rewarding. Staff Depot is a smaller recruitment firm with lots of room for growth. We are currently working on expanding and growing as a team.

“Amanda always a mindful leader”, said Maria Racanelli, Business Administration Program Coordinator. “She was the only student in my experience to be hospitalized yet proceeded to communicate personally with her faculty and peers - not wanting to disappoint them. So it is in keeping with her strong work ethos to want to give back to others and will no doubt thrive in her Human Resources field of work."

“A personal passion of mine is baking and crafting," said Amanda. "For as long as I can remember I’ve always loved to bake and have been a crafty person. In my free time, I enjoy making cookies, cakes, and cupcakes. I even recently opened my own Etsy page for all my crafts. Being in the business program at Humber has allowed me to open my own small business on the side while still working a full-time job in a field that I am passionate about! I am thankful for my time at Humber and everything that I've learned. It's helped me get to where I am today!"
