Alumna Wins Double Gold in IKA Culinary Olympics

Stefanie Francavilla, Baking and Pastry Arts Management alumna and winner of both 2018 Skills Ontario and Skills Canada recently competed in the IKA Culinary Olympics as part of the Junior Culinary Federation (CF) Team Canada. She was responsible for all pastry and dessert items during the competition. During the Olympics, held in Stuttgart, Germany, Stefanie’s team achieved gold in both "Restaurant of Nations" and "IKA Buffet" classifications. The team finished fourth overall for the Junior National Teams category.

The IKA/Culinary Olympics is the oldest, largest and most diverse international culinary arts competition in the world. Professional chef teams work on the perfect interaction of ingredients, preparation, and presentation. Around 1800 participants, including 110 teams and roughly 800 individual exhibitors, from 67 countries were responsible for creating the Olympic atmosphere in the Stuttgart exhibition halls. In a total of 22 kitchens built especially for the IKA, the teams cooked around 8,000 meals for the visitors over the four days of the competition.

Congratulations to Stephanie and the rest of the team for representing Canada and making us proud!
