The 2025 Capital Cup National Undergraduate Mooting Competition took place at Carleton University in Ottawa on November 22nd and 23rd. Both of Humber’s mooting teams, made up of Bachelor of Paralegal Studies students, advanced to the quarterfinals. The team of fourth-year students, Emily Clayton and Aysha Patel, ranked second overall, while the team of second-year students, Mia Papazian and Vir Rohera, ranked fourth.
With 28 mooting teams participating, including four from the University of Toronto, two from Concordia University, and teams from the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, and Memorial University, this achievement was exceptional. Humber students also earned two of the five Top Advocate Awards presented, with honours going to Emily Clayton and Vir Rohera. With 56 individual competitors in total, this further reflects the strength and consistency of Humber’s mooting talent.
Competitors expressed pride and gratitude for the experience. Second-year participant Mia Papazian shared, “Thank you kindly for your continued support and the effort you put into your students’ achievements. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity and look forward to advancing to the finals next year!”
This success also highlights the outstanding coaching provided by Paige Diebel and Mushfiq Mawla, both graduates of the Paralegal Studies degree program and former national mooting competitors themselves. Their guidance, encouragement, and commitment to the students’ development were invaluable. They noted that both Humber teams demonstrated a strong sense of collegiality, which elevated the training process even further.
