Paralegal Studies Alumna Performs Public Service With Crown Legal Departments

Bachelor of Paralegal Studies graduate Caira Sosa, recognized on the 2021 Dean's Honour List with a GPA of 83.4%, began her journey into public service during a field placement with the National Litigation Sector of the Department of Justice Canada.

Within the Tax Law Services Section, her duties encompassed the preparation of file summaries for Disability Tax Credit Claims, as well as the preparation of Books of Authority and Trial Briefs for tax litigation cases. Upon graduation, Caira continued as a Litigation Legal Assistant where she drafted court documents, coded documents, and prepared lists of documents for the discovery process.

In 2023 she advanced her professional trajectory as a Legal Assistant within the Legal Services Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Indigenous Affairs. In this ministry, Caira is transitioning to a position as a Policy Analyst, where she will have the opportunity to provide comprehensive policy and planning direction to support the Branch's objectives.

Reflecting on her career journey, Caira encapsulates her achievements: "Since graduation, I have taken significant steps to enrich my legal expertise. I had the privilege of working at the Department of Justice, in Canada. I am currently serving as a Legal Assistant, soon to transition to the role of Policy Analyst, at the Ontario Ministry of Indigenous Affairs, Legal Service Branch. This role has allowed me to gain profound insights and solidified my passion for specializing in Aboriginal Law."
