Paralegal Alumna Excels in Legal Education

Anika Tabassum Helen, a distinguished graduate from the Bachelor of Paralegal Studies program in 2020, has been awarded her LL.B. (J.D. Pathway) Degree from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom on May 2023. This milestone marks Anika's completion of a comprehensive curriculum encompassing various areas of law, including Canadian Constitutional Law, Foundations of Canadian Law, European Union Law, Criminal Law, and Tort Law.

Anika's dedication to her legal education is evident not only in her academic pursuits but also in her notable achievements. In 2022, she was honoured with the prestigious Leicester Award Gold, which is a next-stage career development program and is recognized by the Duke of Edinburgh Award in its skills section.

During her field placement as part of the Paralegal Studies degree program, Anika served as a paralegal student within the Tax Law Services Section of the Department of Justice Canada. Her role involved collaborating with senior paralegals and counsel in tax litigation cases presented before the Tax Court of Canada and the Federal Court. Her responsibilities included conducting legal research, analyzing tax cases and drafting court documents.

Prior to her academic accomplishments, Anika garnered valuable experience while employed at a general practice law firm. Within this role, she demonstrated her leadership skills by overseeing the entire paralegal services department. Her responsibilities encompassed managing diverse legal matters, such as Small Claims Court proceedings and Landlord and Tenant Board cases.

Anika's academic achievements, coupled with her practical experience, have positioned her as a promising legal professional. Her pursuit of excellence and remarkable track record in legal education and practice make her a valuable asset to the legal community.
