Delicious and Tangible Things Happen When Pastry Arts and Technology Meet

A 'Dragon's Den' type experience was pulled together for pastry chef students that involved the Longo Centre for Entrepreneurship (Longo CfE), Media Arts Photography experts and second-year Digital Business Management students.

Digital Business Management Program Coordinator and Professor Hanadi Alnawab approached the Advanced Chocolate and Confectionery Artistry program with the idea of including the students to develop websites for the pastry chefs who were already actively marketing their creations. This collaboration took place as part of the second-year BUS 2504 Web Development course.

Cheryl Mitchell from the Longo CfE was a logical place to start for this collaborative project and is always happy to participate. Industry expert and partial load Professor Ron Caughlin was also a great inclusion as well as Photography Professor David Scott from the Faculty of Media, Creative Arts, and Design who added sophistication to the photography, making the event truly outstanding. These faculty were informative, inspirational and helped add another level of learning for our students.

Cross-program collaboration can be tremendously successful when you have the kind of skill, expertise and variety. Humber makes this available, all under one roof. With a multidisciplinary approach, tapping into the Humber talent pool can make our programs and projects truly phenomenal. "As an instructor for the Bakery Entrepreneurship and Innovation course, and part of the Advanced Chocolate and Confectionery Artistry program, I have witnessed this success firsthand, using accomplished guest speakers from within our ranks", stated Chef Alastair Grey.

The result of the cross-program collaboration was a symbiotic relationship that was meaningful, rewarding and delicious!
