Paul Sut, a graduate of the Paralegal Education program, turned his Winter 2024 field experience at Moftah Law Professional Corporation into a full-time role. Now working as a paralegal, Paul manages over 100 active files, ensuring compliance, facilitating clear communication, and advocating for clients across a range of legal matters.

A Meaningful Start at Moftah Law

During his internship, Paul quickly proved his value to the team through legal research, procedural precision, and client-focused advocacy. His efforts earned him a position at the firm after graduation, where he now supports case progression from intake to resolution. The experience gave him early exposure to the real-world pace and responsibilities of legal work.

Why Humber’s Paralegal Studies Program?

“I’ve always believed in the power of law as a tool for positive social change,” Paul explains. “I was drawn to the opportunity to advocate for others, promote access to justice, and contribute meaningfully to my community. This program offered a strong foundation to develop the practical skills and knowledge needed to pursue that purpose with confidence and integrity.”

Career Lessons from the Classroom and Beyond

Through Humber’s program and his hands-on placement, Paul learned that a successful legal career goes beyond mastering laws and procedures. “Self-determination and perseverance are key. This field requires more than legal knowledge: it calls for conviction, adaptability, and steady effort,” he says.I’ve learned that growth often happens outside your comfort zone, and success is shaped by how you respond to challenges. Being a paralegal means embracing lifelong learning, standing up for what’s right, and having the courage to grow into the role.”

What I Learned About Myself

Paul’s experience at Humber and in student leadership roles taught him that he thrives in environments rooted in collaboration and community. “Serving as a Lead Student Ambassador and Humber Legal Association representative helped me grow as both a leader and advocate. These roles deepened my appreciation for collaboration, inclusion, and meaningful connection. I discovered that I lead best with empathy and integrity, and that I’m most fulfilled when contributing to something greater than myself: creating positive, lasting change within my community.”

The Power of Mentorship

Paul credits his placement advisor for helping him land his internship. “Their outreach email led me to an opportunity where I was able to complete my required hours. Their support made the process clear and manageable. I also found Humber’s CareerConnect platform helpful, it offers tailored opportunities for students. I recommend connecting early with your advisor and exploring CareerConnect to make the most of the placement process.”

Words of Wisdom for Future Students

Paul encourages future paralegal students to get involved early and often. “The academic resources and support services are there to help you succeed. Get involved in clubs, associations, and volunteer opportunities to enhance your learning and build essential skills. Stay engaged and you’ll find your journey more rewarding. Stay curious, challenge yourself, and embrace opportunities. You’ll be surprised by what you can achieve.”
