This past summer, students from the Fashion Arts and Business diploma, Fashion Management graduate certificate, and Bachelor of Commerce – Fashion Management programs participated in an enriching work-integrated learning (WIL) experience at Florence University of the Arts (FUA) in Italy. Immersed in the rich history of Italian fashion, the students gained a deep understanding of the international fashion market while deepening the skills needed to become career-ready in their field.

From attending leather-making sessions to gaining industry-relevant work experience through the university’s vintage store Fashion Loves You (FLY), to visiting key fashion houses like Gucci, the students developed a new perspective on the world of fashion and enriched their passion for the industry. The students were also allowed to explore Florence and surrounding cities throughout their trip, enjoying the food, art, history, and culture that Italy had to offer.

Fashion Arts and Business student Lashawn Kamali described the experience as “transformative and engaging.” The WIL program not only helped Humber Polytechnic’s future fashion professionals refine their skills but also offered new career perspectives. With its valuable impact, this WIL experience with FUA marks the beginning of many more enriching opportunities to come.
