HLOs:
Sherrard Kuzz LLP, renowned as one of Canada’s foremost employment and labour law firms dedicated to serving employers, participated in Humber’s Legal Networking Event, hosted by the Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Centre on April 3rd. Impressed by the abundance of talented and enthusiastic students, the firm's representatives were inspired to foster ongoing connections by organizing a virtual Mentorship Session. This session aimed to provide invaluable guidance to students and recent graduates of the Law Clerk and Paralegal programs, aiding them in navigating the job application process.
Among the representatives was Joannah Botelho, an alumna of the Law Clerk program, class of 2015, who currently serves as a Legal Assistant at Sherrard Kuzz LLP. Alongside her colleagues, Pam Brar, also a Legal Assistant, and Ava Isaacson, the Director of Team Development, Joannah shared insights during the virtual Mentorship Session on April 29th. They offered crucial advice on refining resumes, leveraging networking opportunities through associations and LinkedIn, and preparing for interviews. Moreover, the panellists provided participants with sample interview questions and highlighted avenues for gaining valuable experience in the field, such as volunteering and roles through temp agencies. Joannah also discussed the pathway from her Field Experience in a criminal law firm during her time at Humber, to the area of employment and labour law in which she currently works.
The interactive session saw participants engaging with insightful inquiries, and they were encouraged to maintain connections with the firm through email and LinkedIn. Notably, Sherrard Kuzz LLP already extended a summer Field Experience opportunity to one of the Bachelor of Paralegal Studies students, scheduled to start in May 2024, further demonstrating the benefits of fostering Humber’s industry partnerships.
