On February 11, six outstanding students from Humber Polytechnic joined Accelerate Her Future (AHF) for an unforgettable evening of career exploration, networking, and behind-the-scenes access at Scotiabank Arena with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE).

Humber Polytechnic continues to be a valued educational partner of AHF, collaborating with the organization as part of their commitment to creating career-advancing opportunities for Indigenous, Black, and racialized women in business and tech. This event brought together 40+ students from eight post-secondary institutions across the GTA for an action-packed, inspiring evening.

The event kicked off with an exclusive backstage tour of Scotiabank Arena, where students stepped inside the Toronto Raptors' locker room, visited the press area, and stood courtside for a unique behind-the-scenes perspective on professional sports and entertainment.

Following the tour, students took part in an engaging career development session on navigating the job search with intention, and purpose. The session was filled with practical takeaways to support students in their journey toward securing internships and full-time opportunities.

A major highlight of the evening was the networking session where Humber students had the opportunity to connect with business leaders at MLSE and learn about the industry firsthand.

Business Insights and Analytics student Samyuktha Narayanan, shared her experience:
“It was overwhelming to be a part of an event specially for women after so long! We took a tour of the Scotiabank Arena and the dressing room of the Toronto Raptors. We got to know how things work in the sports and entertainment industry and clicked a lot of pictures! We had an insightful presentation by the Talent Acquisition Team on the knack to search for jobs on LinkedIn and resume tips to stand out. It was a pleasure to connect with members from different teams of MLSE and learn about their career experiences. The event ended with amazing pizza and a small token of love from MLSE to all the participants!”

Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting student Aashna Manocha, added:
“Yes, I attended the event, and it was an amazing experience! The Scotiabank Arena tour was a definite highlight. I loved getting a behind-the-scenes look at the arena. It was incredible to see everything up close before the game! The session with Tamara Parkes was also super insightful. Her guidance on co-op opportunities at MLSE gave me a clearer understanding of the application process and what they look for in interns. The networking portion was a great chance to connect with industry professionals and learn from their experiences. I have already applied to all the Accounting/Finance roles they had and have scheduled a coffee chat with Tamara Parkes, the Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist at MLSE.”

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with AHF and creating even more opportunities for Humber students in the future!
