Ranie Choy - Hospitality – Event Management
Why did you join the Hospitality – Event Management Program?
While working in Project Management in Hong Kong, Ranie realized she was most energized when she could use her organizational skills. Combined with a deep passion for sports events and concerts, Ranie knew she had to shift her career in a new direction.
What are your favourite parts of the program?
Ranie sees tremendous value in the small and large ways that practical learning is added to the program. Field trips, guest speakers, and volunteer experiences all strengthen the learning that happens inside the classroom.
Why is work integrated learning an important part of the program?
Work integrated learning provides students with the chance to get field experience before they even graduate. Networking is a big part of success, and work integrated learning connects you to important figures in the industry. For Ranie, a big deciding factor in choosing Humber was the learning environment created at the college, and work integrated learning is a key part of that environment.
Why is it important to attend career fairs?
Career fairs bring employers together in the same space, creating a lot of opportunities for networking in a short time. Beyond job opportunities, you can learn from each employer conversation and the valuable advice they offer. The atmosphere in a career fair welcomes more conversation and makes it easier to network.
