Work-Integrated Learning Guest Speaker Provides Invaluable Career Search Insight

The Work-Integrated Learning Centre was pleased to welcome Meena Dowlwani on June 18th as part of the Summer 2020 Virtual Guest Speaker Series hosted over Zoom.

Meena was awarded the President’s Extra Mile Award for achieving 100% placement success for a newcomer's Bridging Program. She works as a part-time professor at Humber College, runs a social enterprise called Destination CEO, and participates on the Program Advisory Board for Humber Radio.

The goal of this session was to provide students with tips and highlights on how to effectively continue their job search given the current climate and challenges of COVID-19. Meena covered topics with examples of real-life situations that were both inspirational and relatable. Throughout her presentation, students felt inspired and participated in meaningful conversations about work search related situations that were creating some concern due to the pandemic.

The highlight of Meena’s presentation was the emphasis that was placed on online participation and the value it adds for job seekers. As we enter this new phase of virtual delivery, her words and knowledge of virtual job fairs, handling power prospects, and the use of LinkedIn networking methods was very impactful. Students enjoyed Meena's enthusiasm and insightful slides.

With more than 100 attendees, the session allowed students to feel informed and engaged.
