WIL Centre Hosts RBC Meeting Place

On Thursday, February 3, 2022, the WIL Centre hosted team members from the RBC Meeting Place who conducted a very powerful virtual workshop on Personal Branding for our Longo Faculty of Business Students.

As our students ready themselves for the business world, they are hearing the buzzwords, “personal branding” more often. This workshop helped these soon-to-be- professionals understand the benefits of implementing the “know, like, and trust” concept when creating their brand. This interactive workshop demonstrated that when students intentionally amplify their personal brand and control the messaging that is online about them, it humanizes their presence and helps them stand out in a sea of similar fresh grads.

The event prepared our students for upcoming networking events, job fairs, mentor meetings, and interviews so that they get the most out of these opportunities. Students gained insights from banking professionals who provided them with tips and advice so that they can prepare for the upcoming organized networking event, Future Ready Event 2022, on Thursday, Feb 17, 2022.

Highlights of the workshop were vitally relevant and kept our students engaged and interactive were:

  • Tips on creating an effective elevator pitch
  • How do you narrate your story?
  • How employers hire directly from social media
  • How to be mindful of social media posts
  • Identifying areas of expertise
  • Studying influencers

It was rewarding to see our Longo Faculty of Business students responding with extremely positive feedback about techniques of personal branding highlighted by the speakers. Students were taught to focus on their strengths and use them to connect better with other professionals in the LinkedIn community, attracting leads and opportunities.

The workshop left a very positive impact on our students, and we experienced an immediate shift in their participation in LinkedIn with an uninhibited sense of themselves and of their strongest assets. This participation in a professional portal has often been hard to master for some of our graduating students, but with RBC’s assistance, it came to them effortlessly.
