Within Intuit, TurboTax has emerged as a vital service, helping individuals navigate the complexities of tax preparation and behind this successful venture lies a partnership with Humber, offering students an opportunity to gain valuable tax knowledge and hands-on experience.

Intuit Canada, co-founded by Scott Cook and Tom Proulx in 1983, has evolved into a globally recognized company. With offices in nine countries and a workforce of 14,200, Intuit's success story continues to unfold.

Supervisor Brenda Watson, TurboTax Champion Lead, has worked with Intuit/TurboTax for six years. Initially joining TurboTax to answer tax-related queries, Brenda soon expanded her involvement to collaborate with educational institutions. This led to a beneficial association with Humber, where TurboTax became an integral part of students' placement hours, augmenting their tax expertise.

Brenda recounts an exceptional experience hosting a Longo Faculty of Business student, Zekeriya, who faced language barriers and limited tax knowledge. However, through perseverance and a genuine desire to learn, Zekeriya overcame these challenges and exceeded all expectations. Hiring Student Interns

The advantages of TurboTax in hiring student interns are evident. The students contribute to customer support, enabling TurboTax to serve a larger client base within a shorter timeframe. This collaborative effort facilitates the smooth operation of the company while nurturing the growth of aspiring tax professionals.

How Students Benefits

Humber students gain hands-on training in income tax, enhancing their customer service skills and fostering effective communication with clients. The experience instills a solid understanding of the rules and regulations governing our country's tax system. Throughout the internship, students receive guidance from experienced moderators, allowing them to navigate the learning process with confidence. Furthermore, this experience helps them master the art of time management while balancing a demanding schedule. The TurboTax internship serves as a resume booster, increasing their visibility and prospects in the job market.

Advice to Future WIL Students

For students embarking on a WIL experience, Brenda shares valuable advice. Encouraging students to seek clarification whenever needed, she emphasizes the importance of time management and prompt reporting of any impediments to productivity. Timely completion of tasks is crucial, as clients rely on accurate and timely responses. Professionalism in communication, avoiding casual language or chatroom lingo, is also essential. Finally, attention to detail and respect for everyone involved contributes to a successful internship journey.

The TurboTax internship program, a collaboration between Intuit Canada and Humber College, provides a transformative learning experience for students, equipping them with essential tax knowledge and professional skills. As this partnership continues to thrive, students have the opportunity to gain practical expertise, preparing them for a successful future in the tax industry.
