Thistletown Collegiate Institute Visits Humber College

On December 14, 2021, Humber Longo Faculty of Business welcomed a tour of 11 Thistletown Collegiate Institute grade 11/12 SHSM students.

These high school students are a part of the ministry approved program called Ontario Specialist High Skills Major. This program allows students to complete their OSSD and focus their learning on the Hospitality and Tourism sector at the same time. Their culinary teacher Chef Keith Hoare believes his students need experiential learning beyond the confines of the classroom and has not had many opportunities to do this since COVID-19 hit, this is where the Humber College team came in to action.

We invited Chef Hoare and 11 of his SHSM students to Humber to experience what college life is like at Humber for Culinary and Baking program students.

  • Students toured our baking and pastry programs under the guidance of Chef Kenneth Ku.
  • They had a question-and-answer period with both Culinary and Baking Students.
  • The students finished their visit by enjoying buffet Lunch produced by a Culinary Management class in the Sustainable Farm to Fork class in the Humber Room restaurant and recieved sustainable lunch bags to remember their visit to Humber College.
