Shopify Partnership Teaches Students How to Run a Business
Business students in courses BUS 2504 and FASH 4500 e-Retailing will have access to an online store with a functioning checkout as part of a new partnership with Shopify this fall.
The Shopify Open Learning Program provides authentic experiential learning opportunities for college and university students, with access to fully-functional stores, all for free.
Here is what will be offered in each course:
-
BUS 2504 Web Development - Digital Business Management Bachelor of Commerce students enrolled in the BUS 2504 winter semester will have access to the program in their second year, enabling them to build real businesses over three years. Students are also encouraged to utilize the store for other self-directed course assignments in their third and fourth years after consulting with their professors.
-
FASH 4500 e-Retailing - Fashion Management Bachelor of Commerce students enrolled in the FASH 4500 fall semester will have access to a 6-month subscription beginning the day of sign-up. At the end of that time, the store will freeze until students are ready to move to a paid plan and can reactivate their stores at any time by contacting support.
The partnership also includes an optional program, earning digital badges to recognize skills gained on the platform. Shopify offers a range of badges that students will be able to share on social media or download to their resumé.
