A Message from the Longo Faculty of Business Senior Dean about Racism

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students of the Longo Faculty of Business,

Over the last few months, I have witnessed many instances of racist violence on television, on social media, and in our communities. I have realized that I need to do better - to examine my privilege honestly and to take positive steps to contribute to real change to make a difference now.

I have participated in various gatherings to learn and discuss the way forward. I wish to help and give voice to those who are silent and are afraid to be heard. I want to be an effective ally to racialized people in our society and this includes our racialized colleagues and students at Humber. We have significant work to do as members of the Longo Faculty of Business to ensure that Black, Indigenous, and other racialized students, faculty and staff feel fully respected, supported, and have a sense of belonging at all of our campuses.

As educators, we have a responsibility to disrupt racial injustices. As we continue our collective work to continuously improve the learning environment at Humber, we are in a unique position to eliminate racism and bigotry within our school's culture. I am committed to supporting all of you to continue to improve how we build Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) more explicitly into the curriculum and in the learning experiences of our students. I am also committed to actioning the plans articulated through the EDI Taskforce that many of you have contributed to, including creating access and equity for Black, Indigenous and racialized students, as well as faculty and staff.

This Fall I will hold a Town Hall for the Longo Faculty of Business to gather input on how we can support equity, diversity, and inclusion for all students, staff, and faculty. I want to hear your concerns. I am committed to ensuring that the Longo Faculty of Business is an inclusive, safe, and enriching learning community for everyone.
