Longo Faculty of Business Work-Integrated Learning Centre is proud to feature: Maria Theresa Camu (Placement Advisor)

Short Bio – Tell me about yourself?

I’m passionate about developing individuals and I’ve worked in people-focused roles throughout my career – with the last 10 years in Human Resources and Employment Services. Every job and industry was vastly different than the last, but there’s one thing all these experiences taught me: I love learning from others. Listening to someone’s story and what they did to succeed is a like being let in on a secret. It is an opportunity collect advice and to soak up knowledge to grow and develop my own skills.

What advice would you give to students to help them develop their self-confidence?

Practice is key! We’ve all found ourselves in new situations where we feel unsure. Research helps with the preparation, but practice is where confidence is built. I encourage all students to network, join professional groups and attend events well before they have an interview. This helps to practice your “elevator pitch”, perfect your responses and increase your comfort overall when speaking to employers.

Placement Advisors support students and employer partners in their Work Integrated Learning journey. Committed, dedicated and professional, they are key contributors to Humber’s Strategic Plan, preparing Career-Ready Citizens and establishing strong, sustainable collaborations with industry, community, international and alumni partners.
