Longo Faculty of Business Professor Awarded a Doctor of Business Administration

Mark Stoiko successfully defended his thesis on June 7 and was awarded a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from South East Technological University in Ireland. His thesis, The Impact of Effectuation on the Relationship between Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurial Internationalisation, applies effectuation theory from the entrepreneurship scholarship to the discipline of internationalisation. The primary data was collected using a self-administered web-based survey distributed to respondents via a purpose-built research network hosted on the LinkedIn portal. The research sample consisted of founders and management of SMEs based in the United States. The study found that internationalisation is intensified when entrepreneurship works in conjunction with effectuation. The major contribution to practice is that entrepreneurs may increase levels of internationalisation by using the mediating link through effectuation. The major contribution to theory is confirmation that effectuation mediates the relationship between entrepreneurship and internationalisation.
