Emily Buchnea, Project Manager at the Longo Centre for Entrepreneurship (CfE), travelled to Bhutan this month to deliver an 8-day Incubation Manager Training program as part of the BEST (Bhutan Education and Skills Training) project. Designed by John Lam and Emily Buchnea, the training was delivered to leaders and trainers from ten Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across Bhutan, as well as representatives from the Department of Employability and Entrepreneurship within the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Employment. The program aimed to share knowledge on establishing business incubation centres within educational institutions, including guidance on programming, operations, and engagement strategies. The training concluded with presentations from each of the ten TVET institutions outlining their plans for developing incubation centres at their respective campuses.

The training was delivered as part of Humber’s BEST project, which aims to support a reformed TVET system in Bhutan, one that equips graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to meet labour market demands and contribute to the country’s sustainable socio-economic development.

Representing the Longo CfE, Emily showcased programs such as the Longo Family Be Your Own Boss Program, the Longo Incubator, and the BMO Launch Me Program, along with success stories from standout student entrepreneurs who have participated in these programs. Guided by the Longo CfE, the TVET institution leaders will now move forward with implementing their business incubation centre plans, helping to strengthen both regional economic development and the broader entrepreneurial ecosystem in Bhutan.

We are excited to see the impact of this training for the Bhutanese TVET institutions, economy, and students as they build brilliance and find their edge.
