Humber Takes Second Place at OCMC 2019

Humber returned from the 2019 Ontario Colleges’ Marketing Competition (OCMC) in November with a second place overall victory. Students and coaches practiced all semester for the big event and the competition results show what can be accomplished with determination and a lot of hard work.

The OCMC is an annual event hosted by a different college every year. It allows the top business students from colleges around the province to compete against each other and demonstrate their marketing skills in front of industry professionals. The competition is divided into two days; with the knowledge-testing Quiz Bowl event on the first evening and individual and team case study events on the second.

Nothing can prepare you for the energy and excitement that is felt while at the competition. Over 250 students from around the province, as well as their coaches, gathered in Niagara Falls this year. Each student arrived eager to compete, having studied and practiced an unimaginable number of hours to perfect their marketing skills.

Thursday evening turned out to be a huge success during Quiz Bowl. Paired with students from other colleges, Katherine Franco Rey’s team placed first and Alvio Romano was on the third place team. As is tradition, Humber cheered loudly and couldn’t have been prouder of the entire team!

On Friday, Humber’s students continued their winning streak with several victories in both individual and case study categories. Fernanda Saraiva sold the judges on her Sales Presentation and walked away with second place. Winning teams included Zach Crema and Raecene Thompson who came in fifth with their Retail Case and Renan Leite de Moura and Olivia Luongo who placed fourth in International Marketing. Matt Barnett and Jose Rama Romo Cabanillas wowed the judges with their Marketing Research, placing in first, while Mark Pierscianowski and Jean Rosenberg placed first in Integrated Marketing Communications with their creative thinking.

Humber’s overall second place win was truly a team effort. The support and encouragement within the team, from both students and coaches, was inspiring to witness and an incredible experience for those lucky enough to take part.

Congrats to the entire team on another amazing OCMC!
