In August, the Longo Faculty of Business, in collaboration with Humber Global, welcomed thirteen students from the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) program. This marks the second year Humber Polytechnic has hosted IISMA scholarship winners, offering Indonesian university and college students the opportunity to study abroad for a semester to enhance their academic and intercultural experiences.

During their time at Humber, the IISMA students are immersed in the Hospitality - Hotel and Restaurant Operations Management program. Many are enrolled in HRT 160: Food and Beverage Service Practical, gaining hands-on experience in Canadian food and beverage service at the Humber Room. Additionally, students in Nicole Chuchmach’s HOTL 218: Hospitality Purchasing, Cost Control and Risk Management class were given an informative tour by Nicole Bryant from the Longo Faculty of Business Purchasing Department, learning about the essential operations of managing this part of the faculty.

As part of their First Year Experience, the IISMA students organized a cultural event to share the rich traditions of Indonesia, which was met with enthusiasm from their peers.

The students have also engaged in a range of cultural activities, including visits to Little Canada and Downtown Toronto, apple picking, outlet mall shopping, and a memorable trip to Niagara Falls (courtesy of Humber Global). They celebrated Thanksgiving at the Old Mill and experienced a thrilling Halloween event at Casa Loma alongside International Exchange students and participants from theNational Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (NKUHT) program.
