On May 8th, Humber College, in partnership with New Beginnings, proudly celebrated the successful graduation of its third cohort of women from the Business Office Technology Certificate Program. Out of the 15 graduates, an impressive 10 achieved honours.
The collaboration between Humber and New Beginnings aims to provide educational opportunities to low-income and underserved women, particularly those who identify as BIPOC, refugees, or individuals who have aged out of the foster care system. This program is designed to help these women rebuild their lives and achieve self-independence through a comprehensive three-part process.
The first step of the program involves a workshop series conducted by New Beginnings, covering essential aspects such as Personal Assessment, Life Esteem Development, Career Planning, Financial Literacy, Health and Wellness, and Outer Transformation. This series empowers women and equips them with the necessary tools to transition from low-income situations to self-sufficiency. The second step of this transformative journey towards self-independence is the Business Technology program. In this phase, students undertake courses at the Longo Faculty of Business specifically tailored to prepare them for the final step - an internship leading to employment opportunities.
The Business Technology program grants a Certificate of Completion upon successful fulfillment of its requirements and includes fundamental courses such as Introduction to Business, Marketing, Social Media Management, PC Business Essentials, Business Computer Applications, and Effective Business Writing. The program, comprising six courses, spans two semesters and is designed to develop the skills necessary for success in a growing digital office environment.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to McGraw Hill and Interpretive Simulations for their generous donation of textbook and simulation access, which minimizes program costs. This invaluable support allows us to offer this program to as many underprivileged and vulnerable women as possible.
Humber College and New Beginnings remain committed to empowering more women through accessible education and creating opportunities for their personal and professional growth.
