Global Learning Collective

The Global Learning Collective wrapped another successful term. The unique opportunity offered by the GLC enabled students to participate in an eight-week, project-based virtual WIL experience.

Longo Faculty of Business students who participated in WIL placements with the GLC gave impressive presentations of their projects and showcased their accomplishments. This WIL placement allowed students to work in small global teams from host companies in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America. The projects focused on global challenges such as sustainability and quality education. While helping to further the Sustainable Development Goals set out by the United Nations, students applied knowledge from their programs to develop marketing campaigns, conduct research and make financial projections.

During their presentations, students expressed appreciation for the exposure to new cultures, overcoming the challenges of working remotely and the skills they were able to gain and develop. Some of these skills included teamwork, communication, and time management and more. Additionally, they were grateful for the opportunity to help with the UN’s SDG which will help to make the world a better place for all. The celebration concluded with highlights of cultural events from each project team’s respective host country. The sense of community was truly highlighted, and the students were able to share how the experience heightened their appreciation for learning about other cultures. One student marveled at the notion that “We were similar in ways we did not expect.”

Organizers also expressed their gratitude for the students’ insights and commitment to the virtual internship. André Siffert, Director of Partner Relations and Denise Wintrich, Director of Virtual Experiences for GLC thanked all participants for their work. André also reminded them of the importance of continuing the work they did with the GLC because they are the future leaders. A point to always remember for all students is that the work done today will go a long way to helping many people tomorrow. No longer are they students or interns; instead, they will go on as ambassadors.
