The CommuniACTION Hackathon united passionate students for a weekend of collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving at Humber Polytechnic’s Lakeshore Campus. Organized in partnership with the Centre for Social Innovation and CP Planning, the event challenged participants to develop innovative solutions addressing the pressing challenges faced by displacement-affected communities.

Throughout the hackathon, students worked in teams, representing key stakeholders such as developers, residents, and community workers. Their goal was to design solutions that promote security, well-being, and equity for vulnerable populations. Participants engaged in dynamic brainstorming sessions, mentorship opportunities, and rapid prototyping, culminating in compelling final presentations.

After a day of intense competition, Team 5—comprising Matthew Brunning, Kikope Oresegun, Nisha Solanki, and Chi Yan Kwon—emerged as the first-place winners. Their innovative approach and collaborative spirit stood out among the impressive submissions.

The CommuniACTION Hackathon showcased the power of collaboration and purpose-driven innovation, highlighting the potential of students to create meaningful, real-world impact. Thank you to all participants, mentors, and organizers who contributed to the event’s success.
