Business graduate and former Ontario Colleges’ Marketing Competition (OCMC) student James Anderson reached out to OCMC coaches this year with the idea for a Theatre of Marketing workshop. James knew his acting background gave him a “leg up” on how to present himself confidently in a room full of people. He thought sharing this knowledge with current OCMC team members would give them a competitive advantage.
James spent an afternoon with the 2019 OCMC team focusing on how you should present rather than what to present. All the major issues most students have with presenting were covered. Topics included dealing with anxiety and nerves, how to speak clearly and standing confidently. It was an informative yet fun and interactive afternoon of presentation tips, tricks, and tools that James knew would improve the team’s presentation skills. His advice was well received by the team which placed 2nd overall during the competition.
James’ previous work background was as a Customer Service Coordinator for GO Transit/Metrolinx. While working he decided to go back to school and found that Humber had the perfect business program to fit his busy schedule. James graduated from Humber in 2019 with an advanced diploma in Business Administration as well as a diploma in Business Marketing. While at Humber, James also formed a network of business graduates and professionals which led him to his current role as Bilingual Sales Coordinator at CAPREIT. Humber’s Business programs gave him the confidence and relevant skills needed to land a job in the industry.
While James may not be attending Humber anymore, he is still very much involved with the program and has provided guidance and support to current students throughout the 2019 fall semester. He offered to be interviewed this summer for an OCMC advice video which can be viewed here and was also involved in Humber’s annual Marketing Spotlight event as the moderator on a discussion panel.
