Humber Culinary students and staff along with an “all-star line-up of 20 chefs” from all across the GTA volunteered at the 5th Annual Chefs Harvest Party. The event helped raise funds to help send Thistletown Collegiate Institute Culinary high school students to Italy on a Culinary & Cultural adventure. The event had our Humber Culinary students and faculty create a dish inspired by a theme from the organizer and teacher Chef Keith Hoare, and was served to over 350 people.
The students received hands-on experience with the intricacies of catering and off-site preparation and food safety. They learned about how to set up stations for the public, with seasoned professionals from Humber College, which is only taught in theory in our programs. The students learned to cook and interact with a live audience and practice their interpersonal skills and professionalism.
The other advantage of this event for our students was that we, the faculty, took each student around the event grounds to introduce them to the industry chefs at participating, in future networking and employment possibilities.
A great way to showcase our Humber Culinary talent to the culinary industry and the local community.
