Tell us about yourself.

Emma is a proud Humber alumna and has been working at Humber’s International, Human Resources and Real Estate Education Program before joining the Longo Faculty of Business in 2023. Why is networking so important and what advice/tips would you give students to make meaningful connections with employers?

Recruiters shift their mindset away from technical skills and focus more on transferable employability and soft skills. Values such as EQ (emotional intelligence), work ethic, resilience, effective communication, and analytical thinking make a standout job candidate and employee. Don't wait until it's resume time to grow soft your skills. Instead, take group assignments as a chance to learn how to plan, lead, delegate, and communicate. Improve interaction with your surrounding 'stakeholders' who are your classmates and instructors. Find a mentor or a role model who possesses the skills you want. Look around for volunteering and on-campus job opportunities.

The WIL Team supports students and employer partners in their Work-Integrated Learning journey. Committed, dedicated and professional, they are key contributors to Humber’s Strategic Plan, preparing career-ready citizens and establishing strong, sustainable collaborations with industry, community, international and alumni partners.
